The Scientific Advisory Committee meeting for the year 2017-18 was organized at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Barpeta on 27th March, 2017 chaired by Dr. H. C. Bhattacharyya, Director, Extension Education, Assam Agricultural University. A threadbare discussion was held on Action Taken Report 2016-17 and the proposed Action Plan 2017-18 in the meeting. Dr. Bhattacharyya in his welcome speech mentioned about the ways through which farmers’ income can be doubled within 2022 as envisaged by the Govt. of India. To achieve this target there is a need to join hands by all the line departments with the KVK, he added. He made several suggestions and modifications to incorporate into the proposed action plan. He briefed about the current trend of farming with special reference to organic agriculture. A phased manner transformation of conventional farming to organic farming initially for 25% of the net cultivable area of Barpeta district should be given priority as he told. On the occasion, the KVK Newsletter for the period July – December 2016 and a Medicinal Plant Garden with 30 plant species were also inaugurated by the Director. The meeting was attended by Dr. S. Paul, Chief Scientist, RARS, Gossaigaon, Dr. K. B. Pun, Officer In-Charge, RRLRRS,ICAR, Gerua, Heads and representatives from state departments, Barpeta, several NGOs and farmers.
