SUCCESS STORIES FOR FLD PROJECT ON PULSES UNDER NMOOP AND NFSM DURING 2015-16

Name of State: Assam

Name of KVK: Barpeta

Name of the technology: HUL-57

Description (Details):

The farmers of villages namely Hakartup and Kathalmurighat, in Barpeta district generally grow only winter paddy. Though there was a vast scope of growing Pulse crop viz. Lentil, but due to lack of knowledge they did not grow Pulse crop in Rice fallow. Replacement of the local and old varieties with improved one as well as preparing farmer’s mindset for growing Lentil as a major rabi season crop after winter rice are the two prime requisites for increasing area, production and productivity of Lentil. In view of the above circumstances, a comprehensive programme “Cluster Front Line Demonstration” was implemented at above mentioned villages by KVK, Barpeta with financial assistant from NMOOP, ICAR.

Foundation seed of Lentil var. HUL-57 along with other inputs like Organic manure, micronutrient and other plant protection like bio chemicals were provided to the selected farmers. The KVK scientists regularly monitored the field and provided expert guidance in each step of field preparation, weeding, application of manures and fertilizers, pests and disease management and harvesting.
